What if...there was an OFFICIAL GW forum?
(NOTE: This is not a suggestion. Just a fun hypothetical situation.)
Websites such as GWGuru and GWO have flourished because ArenaNet hasn't created a central comminity hang-out.
What would happen if ArenaNet did make an official forum?
What would the discussions be like? Would there be less flaming or more? etc.

I think it would be very interesting and i wouldnt think twice about posting new topics in fear of getting flamed because people dont think what i think.

You know how lots of people here complain about 'nerfs' here?
Times that by about 100 and you would have ArenaNet's forum :P

I would have to agree. Want a sample of what it would be like? Visit wow's main official forum.
PS: I know WoW to GW comparison is wrong but.... it's comparing official forum to non-official.

No thanks.
It would be like a minefield with a 100 blind mice running around your feet...people like me (and you) would be banned quickly.

Gaile has already posted on these forums that Anet will not host an official forum. In her words, they feel the fansites do a better job of it and fansites can cater to a specific crowd, rather than trying to force everyone into a centralized forum.
So yea it won't happen so I don't see the point in talking about it.

90% of the petitions won't happen either but there is still pages upon pages of people signing their hearts away..
Anet have a way of changing their minds so nothing is ever set in stone.

Blizz's official forums are like nazi germany.
However I like that Blizz's in-game accounts are linked to your forum account, so your avatar shows up with your level and whatnot. The functionality is good, but it's a shame that 99% of the posts there are along the lines of:
"L2P N3WB"
"HLP I G0T LVL 59 WAT 2 DO NOWW???"
"PALDIN IS TEH NERFED OMFG"
"WTF OMFG ROFLE /SIGNED"

While I would like it, it wouldn't be good for the fansites. ArenaNet would pretty much kill off much of guru and gwonline (well gwonline is terrible and deserves to be killed).
They also don't want to have deal with the servers and hire people to moderate.

Coming from WoW and it's Blizzard hosted forums...I can say that the quality of discussion would probably go down. WoW forums were a nasty place, mostly flames and class warfare and it took careful selection to find posts worth reading.
Posting on a forum hosted by the Game Publisher is kind of like shopping at the company store; it brings up some bad feelings eventually.
The fansite forums are flourishing and it's in ANet's interest to leave things as they are. Why take on the added expense to police and administer a forum.
Also, it removes ANet from having to be directly in the middle of a forum flame war all the time.
GWguru has great forums and tempered moderation: meaning it's well moderated and not over moderated. I can't say the same for GWOnline, I found the atmosphere over there a bit stifling. (forum policies, etc)
All in all, ANet is able to touch base with its players in a fairly comfortable atmosphere, while Blizzard tends to be a lot less open to things even on their own forums.

no they are not
have you even played the game, or is this just the standard flavor of the month anti-wow drivel ?
Sure theres whining, but at least blizzard lets people whine instead of for example EQ2 where any post even remotely disliking the game gets instantly deleted
If you want to bash a game for it simply not being GW, try EQ2. It might make your ideas original

The official forums would be so Freakin funny that anyone that wants a real discussion about Guild Wars would come back here.
Official forums would be filled with threads like "ZoMG Where I get Weaponz!@@!?" Or "Whatz Ur Fav Charr Typ, Lawl!", etc.
Yadee - It isnt Anti-WoW, the same is true for any official forum, be it WoW, or Runescape, Or If Guild Wars had one...etc.
Runescape, btw, is funny I go there just for a laugh.
Heres some DIRECTLY QUOTED topic titles:
"do i need 2 do drag slyr..."
"~How rich are you?~"
"PLZ HELP ME SOMEONE!!!"
"luckiest thing **** hapernd 2u"
"We don't like change! : ("
"lol lyers!"
".:~~WAT HAPPEN TO W41?~~:."
"DDS OVERPOWERED!!!"
And so on...

This i would like an explantion on. GWO is pretty much the same as Guru and most of the discussions at GWO are the same as here. The only thing i dont like about GWO compared to Guru, is the fact that GWO dont allow linking to other competing fansites. What is so terrible about GWO that they deserve to be "killed"?

ROFL ME TOO
when i used to play runescape and be a member (yes we all have done it, its hard to admit ) and i was able to post on there. there was a thread called
Whats cooler, emo or goth?
-omfg that was the gayest thread ive EVER read anywhere.
and in another one sum1 posted about how sad the world is becoming and how their friend hung themselves and i was like....."OWNED!" - yea that got my forum useage suspended
yea official forums are either gay or too up-the-ass with administration - though there is one mod on here whos name i wont mention that is way way WAYYY up-the-ass.

If they had official forums they would get a bad rep if they didn't give enough information or feedback, or outright lied. Of course they could subtly delete posts so there was no evidence of the lies. With fansite forums, it's more casual and gives Gaile more freedom AFAICT.
